Circuit Breaker Guard FAQs

Circuit Breaker Guard FAQs.  Below are a few of the frequently asked questions about the pistol-grip handle guard and lockout device:

Q:  Hey Legacy, is this device a guard or a lockout?

A:  Good question, thank you for asking. The device functions as a control switch guard and prevents accidental actuation of a pistol-grip type handle. If you have the device installed as a guard and someone needs to perform service, they can add their lock and the device now functions as a lockout.

Installed out of the box: it’s a guard

Add a padlock: it’s a lockout

Q:  Could you clarify something on the device installation instructions. Can this be installed on an in-service circuit breaker, yes or no?

A:  Yes. The control switch lockout device is easy to install on an in-service breaker. Take a look at our Video Tutorial for more details.

Q:  Will it work with my control switch handles?

A:  Ah… this is the most common question. Will the device work with your handles?  Let’s find out:

Are your handles pistol-grip style?

Do your handles have a back plate / escutcheon plate with two screws just above the handle?

If you answered yes to these questions, the lockout device should work. Still not sure?  Request a sample.
